Sample interview questions: Can you describe your experience with telemetry patient medication administration via intramuscular (IM) routes?

Sample answer:

During my tenure as a telemetry nurse, I gained extensive experience administering medications via intramuscular (IM) routes to telemetry patients. This involved:

  • Assessing patient eligibility and preparing the injection site: I meticulously evaluated each patient’s condition, vital signs, and medical history to ensure they were appropriate candidates for IM medication administration. I then identified and prepared the IM injection site, typically the ventrogluteal or deltoid muscle.

  • Calculating medication dosage and drawing up the medication: Based on physician orders, I accurately calculated the correct medication dosage and drew up the medication using aseptic technique.

  • Administering the medication: With the patient properly positioned, I expertly inserted the needle into the injection site at the appropriate angle and depth. I slowly injected the medication, monitoring for any adverse reactions or discomfort from the patient.
