During carotid endarterectomies, I assist the surgeon in accessing the carotid artery and removing plaque from its inner lining. This procedure requires meticulous attention to detail and a thorough understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the carotid artery. I ensure the patient’s safety and comfort throughout the operation, monitoring their vital signs and providing any necessary assistance to the surgical team.
For peripheral artery bypasses, I assist in creating a new pathway for blood flow to bypass obstructed arteries in the legs or arms. This involves harvesting a vein from another part of the patient’s body and grafting it onto the affected artery.
